Bollywood has been the face of Indian cinema since the very beginning, until recently, when director SS Rajamouli broke all barriers and established the South film industry, especially the Telugu film industry as a global phenomenon, one that is worth looking at.
Having said that, it is important to note that every actor in India wanted to be a part of Bollywood very desperately during the peak stage of Bollywood. Actors like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and Venkatesh tried their luck with Bollywood but turned out to be unsuccessful. Of course, there are actors like Kamal Haasan and Madhavan who made their mark in Bollywood, but the rate of success if lesser than the rate of failure.
We have recent examples like Prabhas and Bellamkonda Srinivas, who faced huge failures in Bollywood, despite having a great market. Perhaps Bollywood continues to be a dangerous territory for South Indian actors still.
