‘Srimanthudu’ controversy

The movie ‘Srimanthudu’ directed by Koratala Siva with Mahesh Babu as the hero was a great success. ‘Srimanthudu’ was released in 2015 with the concept of ‘ Adopting village’. Eight years have passed since the release of the film.. still the controversy regarding the story of this film has not come to an end.

Author Sarath Chandra had previously approached Hyderabad’s Nampally court claiming that the story of ‘Srimanthudu’ had been copied based on a story published in Swati Patrika. The court that heard his petition ordered criminal action against director Koratala Siva. Challenging the order of the Nampally court, Koratala approached the Telangana High Court. Author Sarath Chandra presented the evidence of copying the story of ‘Shrimanthudu’ during the trial. The Telangana High Court considered the report and upheld the order of the Nampally court. With this, Shiva knocked on the door of the Supreme Court.

A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra conducted an inquiry on the petition filed by Koratala. Senior advocate Niranjan Reddy argued on behalf of the Koratala that the High Court and the local court did not consider their arguments anywhere. However, the Supreme Bench said that the decision of the local court was based on the report of the Writers’ Association and that the verdict contained clear points.
