Has the remake culture finally come to an end?

OTT platforms have not been in existence for long, and neither have subtitles. That’s why remakes were popular in India because there are many languages in which movies are made in the country, and not everyone understands or watches films in all languages.

However, with the popularity of OTT platforms, every film has now become accessible and understandable to everyone, diminishing the need for remakes.

Despite that, actors from various industries have been trying to remake films, because remakes are often a safe bet, as they are tried and tested formulas that mostly never go wrong. Till before the coronavirus pandemic, remakes still seemed to work. After the pandemic though, remakes have become cursed.

No matter how well-made a remake is, it is turning out to be a disaster now. Tollywood is an industry where remakes are commonplace, where even star actors opt for remakes. There have been a decent number of remakes in Telugu in the last couple of years, and there are still one or two more remakes in the pipeline currently. However, the number of remakes that are currently being made has come down drastically, and here’s hoping that the remake culture is finally dying down.
