Popularly known as Gaddar, Gummadi Vittal Rao was born to a Dalit family in 1949, and completed his education in Mahbubnagar, while he did his engineering in Hyderabad. He was incredibly active in the Telangana agitation movement that took place in 1969.
All of his songs and ballads were a huge success, and he managed to inspire and educate the youth and people of Telangana, by going to every corner of the state and singing about the importance of a separate Telangana state. Of all of his songs, Podusthunna Poddhu is highly famous and was a huge rage at the time of the movement, even going on to become the anthem for the movement.
Today, Gaddar’s son Suryam announced that his father is no more after he breathed his last while being treated in Hyderabad’s Apollo Hospital. Gaddar came to be known so after he wrote his first song ‘Aapara Riksha’ for director B Narasimha Rao, which was released in an album titled ‘Gaddar’. Narasimha Rao was the person that arranged Gaddar’s first show on Bhagath Singh Jayanthi.
