Arjun Bharadwaj suicide video went viral and made headlines as he killed himself by jumping off from a five-star hotel in Mumbai. This is not the first time, there are many student who end their life committing suicide. According to 2015 data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NRCB) every hour, one student commits suicide in India. Shocking, isn’t it!
According to report in 2015, almost 8934 committed suicides. In the last five years almost 20,15,39,775 students have killed themselves. Many suicides even go unreported.
The shocking aspect is that India has the World’s highest suicide rates according to Lancet report 2012.
According to the report, Maharastra has reported the highest student suicides than any state i.e. 1230 out of 8934 nationwide. Tamil Nadu had 955 cases followed by Chhattisgarh with 625 cases.
Sikkim is India’s third-richest state going by per capita income, and its literacy rate is seventh. But it also has second-highest unemployment rate. A number of suicides close to 27 % have been reported from Sikkim as they were unemployed.
