Well-known Hindustani classical vocalist Kishori Amonkar passed away in her Dadar flat at Mumbai. She was aged 84 and breathed her last on Monday. She was survived by her two sons and grand children.
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar expressed her condolences and said, “She was a unique and extraordinary classical singer. Her demise spells a huge loss for the world of music.”
Kishori Amonkar had a career span of almost seven decades and was referred to as Gaan-Saraswati. She has also been conferred with Padma Vibhushan and Sahitya Akademi Award among others.
Being a well-known singer, Amonkar was also a popular speaker and had travelled all across India giving lectures.
