Govt bans use of ‘Red Beacon lights’ from May 1

Union cabinet today has taken a decision to stop the use of red beacons light. Government considers the opinion that beacons on vehicles are looked upto as symbols of VIP culture.

According an official statement,Beacons, however, will be allowed on vehicles concerned with emergency and relief services, ambulance, fire service etc. Nitin Gadkari was the first one to remove beacon from his vehicle.

Talking to the press, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, “From May 1 no one in the country would be able to have red beacons atop official vehicles. There will be no exceptions.”

A decision to this effect was taken at a Union Cabinet meet presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
