Former top Bureaucrat convicted in coal scam case

A special CBI court in Delhi convicted former coal secretary HC Gupta and two other bureaucrats for irregularities in allocation of a coal block in Madhya Pradesh to KSSPL.

HC Gupta was the coal secretary for two years under the UPA government before his retirement in 2008. Crucial meetings related to coal rights were chaired by him where he did not allow an open auction for allocation under the then Manmohan Singh ministry.

Special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar also convicted KS Kropha, coal ministry’s then joint secretary and director KC Samaria along with few others. Pawan Kumar Ahluwalia, managing director of private firm KSSPL was also convicted by the court.
