On Tuesday night Delhi Police arrested AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran for bribing the Election Commission to get hold of the party’s frozen “two-leaves” symbol. Sukesh Chandrasekhar, the alleged middleman was arrested too from a hotel room in Delhi on Sunday night while seizing a BMW and Mercedes from him as per the media report.
Following the death of party supremo and then Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, dispute over the party symbol erupted after the AIADMK split into two groups. Dinakaran is a leader of the VK Sasikala-led AIADMK (Amma). The other faction is O Panneerselvam’s AIADMK Puratchi Thalavi Amma.
Dinakaran and Chandrashekhar were jointly interrogated as per Police sources and questions were raised about the Rs 1.3 crore found from Chandrashekhar’s hotel room. A police officer said “We will probe Chandrashekhar’s claims. He had promised Dinakaran to get the symbol allotted through his contacts in the Election Commission. We are also probing the role of a retired bureaucrat of the Tamil Nadu cadre”
