Wipro which is the nation’s third largest software services company has sacked hundreds of employees after its annual performance appraisal. A report stated that the firm has fired 600 employees with further speculation of the number going as high as 2000.
According to reports Wipro said that they undertake a “rigorous performance appraisal process” which is to align its workforce with business objectives, strategic priorities and client requirements. It also added, “The performance appraisal may also lead to the separation of some employees from the company and these numbers vary from year to year”
With IT companies facing an uncertain environment with restrictions being introduced on worker visa norms by various countries and adoption of technologies like automation and artificial intelligence, this news is a certain to raise more questions for the future.
